Ecumenical Food Pantry is now Harrisburg Area Food Pantry
Effective July 1, 2023, the Harrisburg Area Food Pantry (HAFP) will be the
new name of the Ecumenical Food Pantry. Supported by state and local
grants, individual donors, businesses and local non-profits including
religious and fraternal organizations, the Harrisburg Area Food Pantry will
continue to serve those who face food insecurities daily. Last month, the
Harrisburg Area Food Pantry served a 3-day supply of food to over 3,400
individuals!
As it awaits final approval of its own 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
status, the pantry will continue to operate at 901 N. 6th St., Harrisburg,
PA in the familiar location where it has operated for just over 50 years.
This new status and rebranding effort will allow the pantry to seek
additional corporate and private donations and grant funding to support our
operations and continue our mission of feeding those in need. Until the
final 501(c)(3) approval is received, the HAFP will continue to be a
ministry of Messiah Lutheran Church and all donations continue to be tax
deductible.
Founded in 1972 as a result of the emergent food insecurities many faced
following Hurricane Agnes, the Ecumenical Food Pantry was founded by members
of Messiah Lutheran Church and other local churches. As we begin this new
chapter, we look back on our founders, donors and supporters with great
respect and admiration with a commitment to continue their legacy of serving
our neighbors in need.
